Claudia G. Thomas
Claudia has a BA in Art from Rollins College and had the opportunity to study art history in Italy for 4 weeks. During a 30 Year career with Delta Airlines, she frequented galleries and museums worldwide. Plein Air landscape painting became a passion, followed by her current explorations of botanical subjects. Her contemporary oil paintings focus on light, color and design. Her work is featured in the books: 100 Southern Artists and Artist Homes and Studios by E. Ashley Rooney, Schiffer Publishing Co. She participates in art festivals and juried exhibitions.
Artist’s Statement
I enjoy hiking and long walks in national and local parks, botanical gardens and seashores. I'm inspired, as an artist, by the beauty and strength in natural environments and enjoy interpreting what I see in nature into my art. I look for interesting shapes in shadow and light for contrast. Diagonal lines, and vivid colors energize me. I want the viewer to have the same response when viewing the work. My preference is to paint in oils because of their richness and ease of layering, on canvas or board panels. I paint frequently outdoors or in a studio in my home.
