JR Ramoutar
I was born and spent all of my childhood/adolescent years in Toronto, Canada but moved to Florida to start high school here. I remember walking through the streets of Quebec when I was 12 in awe of all of the amazing graffiti work. In field trips to the museum, most of my classmates didn't really care for what was displayed but I had an appreciation and an intuition that the freedom of creating and enjoying art was what was life was all about. Even though the influence was there from a young age, I didn't start painting until 19 years later. I was absorbed in other forms of art such was music production, martial arts--mainly tai chi and wood working. During the pandemic, I spent much more time at home so I figured it was the perfect time to get back to my first calling--painting.
Artist’s Statement
Every time I pick up a paint brush, the goal in mind is to be as playful and as unintentional as possible. This is because I like my art to presented almost as if it was a Zen koan or riddle.
