Artist’s Statement

Every process of an experience is impactful. I create works to provide a visual representation of an eternal record of something that cannot be touched in reality. They are constantly shifting and evolving into new forms.

My work engenders a meaningful direction in creating awareness for the mental consciousness. My style has formed on its own, into organic repetitive patterns that are achieved in design and form. This is shown in altering forms, mark making, carving, and mostly through making multiples of the same piece.

When creating my pieces, clarity and peace flow through my consciousness, allowing me to experience the same serenity that embodies each piece. Repetitive patterns are used in art therapy to calm anxiety, either by creating or just visualizing. The process assists the brain to concentrate the mind. This experience is shared with my peers, creating a proactive environment, in and out of the studio. Ceramics is based upon coming together in the studio, working on kiln firings, and sharing the pieces we have created: serving trays, bowls, cups, tea sets, etc. The ceramics community encourages everyone to be the best they can be, which I have come to admire enormously.
