12” x 16" acrylics, wax pastels, and paper collage on gallery wrapped canvas
Starting with a sketch of a grape leaf from my backyard, I used improvised colors and patterns to fill up the shape, often using a technique known as frottage. A piece of thin paper is placed over a textured surface then rubbed over with a pastel or crayon. The paper is adhered while wet and becomes transparent. The result is reminiscent of a patchwork quilt.
